Random updates

Ok, first thing's first..

Here is my indian chicken stuff from my pressure cooker. I have to admit, it looks a bit blah, but really it was fairly spicy and quite flavorful. Problem is, I have mad WAY too many indian-ish things lately and I think I am tired of it. I made some barley as well to serve it with.
Aside from all of that, I really liked the pressure cooker. The chicken was done in 9 minutes and the barley, which was unsoaked, cooked in 15 min. So a success as far as I'm concerned, I think I'll just try food from a different country.

Completely random, I love this china. In all fairness, I saw on Pioneer Woman's blog today that she was giving some away, but I didn't enter. It just reminded me of how completely awesome this pattern is (it's "Chirp" by Lenox, that in itself makes me want it) and also how I would have WAY too much china if I had spare $$. So rather than having it sit on in my cabinet, I'll just look at it here. Maybe I'll just get a mug, or a plate....

Brick update: The brick was delivered on Monday, in the grass. Please ignore the grass, it was pretty in May. That's what happens in the south, things are pretty in May, and then it doesn't rain for a few years, well weeks and then this happens. Avert your eyes.
So the brick was delivered and then, you'll never guess, it RAINED for 3 days. Of course! But today the guys came and started the work.
Just a little of it is up, but you can get the idea. And what a lovely concrete A/C pad that is!
Oh and here's my garden. I just planted some parsnip, green onion and kale seeds yesterday. I hope they liked the rain.
Also, notice the tent in the neighbor's yard... need I comment?

I bought this pressure cooker the other day while my sister was in town.
As you can see it is still in the box... I'm trying it out today, I'll let you know how it goes. I am doing a version of indian butter chicken.
Oh, and I stuck my kid in a corner so he could read without distractions. He loves it in here. Maybe it reminds him of the womb... Ooh let's not even think about it.

Part Three..

On the official celebration day, we decided to grill out at Mom and Chuck's house with some of our favorites. We had hamburgers and brats, slaw, chips, fresh tomato pie and devilled eggs, of course. Ty and Chris have a DEEP passion for these little stinkers. Here they are prepping them. Emily can't bear to watch.
Grandpa (or Gwampa as the twins call him), and Hanner (Ty's Mom) were getting in some good grandkid playtime.
Ty at the grill, all is well...
Rosemary and Angel had a great time making rock soup and baking bricks.
And then it was time for dinner. We actually fit 13 people in Mom's dining room. That is a feat!
Time for the long awaited moment. One year! Gosh I feel so much better than I did this time last year, imagine that.... I digress.
Feel the cake,
Really getting in to it,
Need a little help with the ice cream,
Finally eating the cake.
Believe it or not, this is a happy face!
Rosemary, taking it all in.
The boys taking it in too!
We really had a great time, fun for all!

Part Two...

So, my sister Emily and her fam arrived on Thursday afternoon. Her twins, Eamonn and Elliott, and Rosemary and Davis got in a lot of good playing time. It was fun to watch our kids together, funny too.
Grandpa put up some swings for the kids, they loved it. I think Grandpa loved it too.
Later that evening, Em and Chris came to our house to hang out a bit and the guys decided to show off various "abilities". Here Ty is showing his double jointed-ness. Chris was convinced he should take his act on the road.......somewhere.
Rosemary and Davis having some serious eating time on Friday morning. Both oblivious to their surroundings.
We had some pics taken of our families by one of Mom's friends' husbands. Here's just a quick shot I took of D. I could just eat him.
Later, a golf cart ride on the caddy of carts.....
Ty's parents and cousin Angel arrived on Friday afternoon and we all ate a Partner's Pizza, of course.
Davis sampled some cheese pizza for the first time. He liked it, but had some trouble chewing up the cheese....
Ty was persistent, but to no avail. He ended up just eating the crust.
Davis also had a good time playing with his cups with Pappy.
We all had a great time, really. How can you not though with greek pizza and good family fun!

Davis' big day, part uno

Wow, it's been a year already! And what a year it has been! To celebrate, we started the day in our now FORWARD FACING car seat. Try to contain your enthusiasm!
I am so big!
I am so big that I can chew on this lint roller! Eww....
Having a few "puffs" at Waffle house with Daddy.
Hmmm, Mom still looks tired... but not AS tired as last year.
While Davis was napping, I was able to put some celebratory balloons on the mailbox. Yay!

And just in case you needed a reminder...

Revelation

So I read this passage this morning and thought it was fitting for me today and so I thought I'd share it.
"I keep asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ , the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. (This next is my favorite part) I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe." Ephesians 1:17-19

I can use some enlightening these days, when life seems repetitive. But I know that I have hope, a hope that is not a vague feeling that the future will be positive but it is a complete assurance of certain purpose and victory in CHRIST. Thank you for the encouragement today!

And now I think I'll have another cup of tea.....

Good-bye and Hello

Yesterday, Ty said good-bye to his Harley. A variety of reasons really. But after my attempts to have him get rid of it over the past few months, I felt kinda sad for him. I'm sure he'll get another one some day. But for now we will admire him on his bike....
On a happier note, Ty came home today with a new truck rack. Far more useful in my opinion. Anyway, he has been trying to get one for awhile now. Turns out the concrete guy welds and happily made one for Ty over the weekend. Yay!

Beautiful Saturday

It was such a nice day on Saturday. You would hardly know it was July-breezy, dry and low 80's. Beautiful day for a golf cart ride....
We are trying out a neighbor's golf cart before we buy it. Davis really enjoyed it.
He seems to want to drive....
And here, parked in its future home. It's a bit longer than we thought.... (click on picture for close up)
Hmm...... -notice the ever-present FRM shirt :) He'll figure something out.
And to end a perfect day, a big beer and (not pictured) salsa at El Ranchero! Yummy!

Concrete

So Where did we leave off?
The brick ledge hole (complete with slight overkill of rebar) is on the front and sides of the house. (We opted to not do the back of the house since it alone would be more than all of the other combined-and we might add on there one day too.)
And front stoop/portico base and new walk and landing.
The concrete truck is here.

Ever see Ty wear this shirt?....

Yes, not much chance of missing it I guess.
That's these people. Fairburn Ready Mix (the concrete folks).

Anyway...

New concrete walk and stoop. These will be covered with brick.
New super-fabulous shed slab, ooh control the excitement!
And lastly, we mustn't forget this lovely piece of engineering.

Now all I have to do is pick out the brick. That sounds so easy, but anyone who knows me knows... well not so much.
